The College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) held a two-day General Assembly “Spektra Kultura: Kulay ng Lahing Pilipino” last October 26-27, 2018 which took place in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila field and Intramuros Night Market. The event included sketchwalk, photowalk, baybayin seminar, bandawit and opening of booths organized and facilitated by the students by block.

The aforementioned events were led by professional speakers for workshops and seminar and gave recognition to some of the Archangels who standout during the event. The participants of the sketchwalk activity who stood out were Clyde Gallo (First Place), Carl Santos (Second Place), Jirah Millano (Third Place), and Daniel Hernandez (Fourth Place). For the photowalk batch 1, it was Angelica Jane Bracia (First Place) and Aaron John Nuñez (Second Place) who emerged as the best, while it was Liezl Joaquin (First Place) and Ishmael Ramirez (Second Place) for batch 2. Meanwhile, the participants who stood out in the baybayin seminar were Vanessa Jane Nietes (First Place) and Angelo Aguila and Angelica Marie Lumibao (Second Place).

The first day of CAUP’s General Assembly was filled with various activities- sketchwalk, photowalk and baybayin seminar were held. The speakers were Raphael Maria Miguel Cascante, Architect Allan Jay Quesada, Wahico De Leon, Professor Lalaine Isip and Professor Ferdinand Ipanag respectively for the said activities.

Meanwhile, the second day of CAUP’s General Assembly started off with a short program including our College Secretary and Student Council Adviser, Architect Antonio Nudas III’s opening remarks, freshmen’s intermission number, passing of ribbon from the past Student Council Executive officers to the Present Student Council Executive Officers and their messages. Right after the short program, the booths of different blocks opened along with the start of “Laro ng Lahi” which included four stations-blow the harina, sack race, hilahan lubid and kadang kadang. The event’s highlights also included festivity as colorful themed booths added enjoyment to it. The Arc of Odeon (4-2)’ s booth caught the attention of the majority and was hailed as the champion. The Arc of Alfheim (1-1) and Arc of Haraya (4-1) seized the remaining two spots respectively. The participants of the Laro ng lahi also participated in kite making, and when all was well and done Team 8 or Apolaki, as they called themselves, were the ones who came out on top as the champion, followed by Team 3- Amihan and Team 6- Alena, respectively.

“Bandawit 2018 faced a lot of problems while the council was planning until the program itself. Though in spite of all the conflicts the goal of Bandawit is to showcase the CAUP Students’ talents, skills and also to boost their confidence to mingle with colleagues especially for our first year students to make their stay on CAUP fun and memorable. The event was finished smoothly so for me all the efforts that we gave as well as the participants are well paid off.”Ellaine Jasmine Ellazar, Bandawit Event Head

Right after the booths were closed, students prepared for the most-awaited event for CAUP’s GA, the Bandawit that was held at the The Wall Intramuros Night Market, which was also made possible with the partnership of The Wall’s owner, Mr. Denver Chua. The judges for the Band contest were Jerico Roxas, Randolph Banhaw and Arch. Antonio Nudas III. The Dravidians, Bryan Anthony Laquinta (Vocalist), Paul John Aytona (Rhythm Guitarist), Raphael Maria Miguel Cascante (Lead Guitarist), Jerico Roxas (Bassist), Dean Joshua Querri (Violinist), and Harvey Wong (Drummer), a group of freshly graduated students of PLM CAUP, was also invited during the Bandawit to perform. Furthermore, after the bands performed the announcement of winners of the GA Day 2 activities— booth awards, laro ng lahi and bandawit were held. The bands who stood out in the contest were Darry Patootie, (5-2) , Bandzantine, (1-2) and Black Ink (4-1) respectively.

“On behalf of the PLM CAUP Student Council, we are sincerely grateful to all the people who supported us and actively participated on our event. We’re looking forward for more successful events and projects with you.”Sharmine Pigaredo, CAUP SC President

With the help of their adviser, Arch. Antonio Nudas III, the CAUP SC had an intensive preparation just to make the event successful. Each committee went hands-on from the publicity of the main event, activities and reminders up to the installation of props and stage designs that are all needed for the event.

Inspite of several postponements due to inevitable circumstances, all the hard works the CAUP SC from scratch to finish were all paid off by the fellow CAUP students who showed willingness to join and enjoy the activities prepared by the CAUP SC.

“Well for me, I would say that as a guest for events in PLM, this is by far the most organized (in terms of program flow execution) and exciting event I have been to, no doubt. Perfect choice ang venue, since it mutually benefited both involved. The size of the venue added to the intimacy of the ambience. It felt like a friends night out more so than a formal event which is great. The lights and sounds and LED wall was spot on, although may minor hiccups sa microphones and sound system which is normal and completely acceptable. The food and beverages are wild and fun, syempre! 😅

Overall, the event didn’t feel rushed nor dragging. From the perception of an audience, everything was all chill while having spectacular performances to listen to. Kudos to the organizers for maintaining such composure all throughout!” -Bryan Anthony Laquinta, Dravidian Vocalist
